The Role

At Last Mile Health (LMH), we dig data. Are you passionate about conducting high-quality research to measure impact, guide quality improvements, and inform policy in the global health sector? If so, you may be the next Technical Coordinator on our Global Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning team (Global MERL).

The Global MERL team is building a robust system of measurement, evaluation, and learning to drive improvement of programmatic work at Last Mile Health. Reporting to the Director, Global MERL, the Technical Coordinator will support organizational performance management processes, development of theories of change or logic models, indicator development, and reporting through data dashboards. They will also develop and manage IRB protocol submissions and build LMH staff capacity in qualitative research and manuscript writing. Additionally, the Technical Coordinator will support the management of Global MERL functions including budget, vendors, and consulting contracts, and any other requested tasks that are in alignment with roles and responsibilities and MERL agenda.

This position is open to candidates located on the Eastern seaboard of the United States (preference to New York City and Boston). Please note that our US offices are currently closed due to COVID 19 and all US-based staff are working remotely.  

What You'll Do

  • Support organization and program teams to develop and refine theories of change and logic models
  • Facilitate planning and execution of data use practices for adaptive management for organizational key performance indicators and programmatic indicators and targets
  • Conduct research to inform program design and monitoring, research and learning activities
  • Contribute to research manuscripts and coordinate contributions and authorships across diverse teams
  • Lead literature or evidence reviews to support program design and evaluation planning
  • Develop qualitative data collection tools and lead qualitative analyses for selected components of program evaluation and research
  • Write and disseminate qualitative results and findings from projects for different audiences
  • Lead the work for IRB applications, submissions, and renewal
  • With guidance from team leadership, plan and coordinate team engagements, including regular team calls or meetings, retreats, and other purposeful time meant to drive progress towards goals
  • Support development of the Global MERL annual plans with a focus on budget management
  • Manage Global MERL team vendors (e.g. commercial IRB, software licenses) and external advisor contracts
  • Provide coordination support for key grants including tracking of deliverables and requests from the country-based MERL teams
  • Coordinate donor reporting inputs and target setting across MERL and programs teams
  • Provide technical support to key evaluation activities, including updates to study design, data collection tools, and/or analysis and dissemination of findings
  • Support development and management of teamwork plans, monitoring progress toward goals, project planning, reporting, and needed adjustments

What You'll Bring

  • A Masters degree in public health or related clinical or social science discipline
  • Several years of MERL experience in the public health discipline with demonstrated success in project management
  • Experience engaging with an institutional review board
  • Expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods with working knowledge of statistical tools (e.g. Stata)
  • Expertise in software data visualization such as Excel and or other (e.g. tableau) data analysis 
  • Experience in dissemination work (PowerPoint, report, or manuscript writing)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and social justice
