JSI and World Education Center for Capacity Development (CD Center) brings together the best learning from over 6,000 JSI and WEI projects in over 80 countries including the United States. The CD Center promotes best practices, draws on state-of-the-art resources from around the world, promotes innovation, and shares tools and approaches across projects, disciplines, and contexts. It serves as a responsive, flexible service provider to JSI/WEI projects and affiliates and partner organizations; coordinates learning and knowledge management around capacity strengthening; positions JSI and WEI as trusted capacity strengthening providers; and grows new business related to capacity strengthening.

The Technical Advisor is an integral member of JSI and WEI’s Center for Capacity Development, with key responsibilities in carrying out technical initiatives of the Center, supporting technical excellence and learning, contributing to new business efforts, and advancing JSI and WEI’s thought leadership through conferences, operational research and other avenues. The Technical Advisor will focus on JSI’s international and domestic programs as well as WEI’s portfolio of programs.

They will report to the Center Director. This position can be based in either Boston, MA or Arlington, VA. JSI is currently operating on a hybrid work schedule and the candidate is expected to be in the office 2-3 days per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide targeted technical support to JSI and WEI projects in areas such as systems and network strengthening; organizational development; facilitation; instructional design; digital learning; capacity assessment; and performance management.
  • Contribute to new business development including writing technical proposals, coordinating proposals, supporting technical design, and reviewing proposals.
  • Identify and develop relationships with strategic organizations to partner with.
  • Provide technical leadership in developing/finalizing manuals, toolkits, and other technical resources and tools and coordinate communications and other support needed to disseminate and implement.
  • Contribute to learning and information sharing efforts such as learning hours.
  • Identify technical resources across the organization for the Center resource compendium, lead updating and dissemination.
  • Support knowledge management initiatives.
  • Organize and convene annual internal technical summits.
  • Organize and coordinate periodic external webinars to showcase areas of thought leadership for JSI and WEI.
  • Arrange and lead a coordinated JSI and WEI presence at conferences and other representational events.
  • Support documentation, learning and dissemination on JSI and WEI’s capacity strengthening and localization efforts.
  • Participate as a member of the Center’s Core Team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree or advanced degree in instructional design, human-centered design, organizational development, or international development.
  • Experience: 8 years of experience working with capacity strengthening programs in international development, ideally with an emphasis on health, nutrition, food security, nutrition-sensitive agriculture, HIV, livelihoods or a related field.
  • Experience working effectively in cross-sector teams and cross-cultural settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizational development work, facilitate courses, designing interactive learning experiences and develop curricula.
  • Knowledge of the principles of capacity strengthening including organizational development, adult learning, learning styles, participatory methods, instructional design, whole systems design, digital learning and related areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple activities simultaneously and deliver quality results on time and within budget.
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills with a dynamic, engaging facilitation style.
  • Skilled in word processing, presentation design, spreadsheets (Excel), and web-based programs
  • Past experience working with USAID preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally, up to 30% time.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
