Job-Specific Responsibilities

 

The educator will design and co-facilitate online and/or face to face workshops in English and Spanish, soliciting teen thoughts and feelings on contemporary issues related to the exhibits in our cultural and natural history museums. They will use technologies (i.e., videoconferencing, podcast software) to broaden access to museum resources for a non-college audience. They will assist the Director of Education with project planning, research and implementation, including producing program materials. They will be the primary contact with 24 teens annually in Chelsea and Somerville, solicit materials review from external partners; coordinate production and installation of youth projects with HMSC Exhibits staff; liaise with Somerville Media Center to focus bilingual recruitment videos. They will grow networks to support program attendance and perform other duties as needed. They will be supported by designers, marketing professionals and a Director of Education.

 

This position will work remotely with a target of January to work on campus (11 Divinity Avenue, Cambridge). 

This is a two-year term position starting from the date of hire.

 

Basic Qualifications

 

  • BA
  • Minimum 2 years of mentoring, coaching or teaching groups of middle and high school youth
  • Experience using technologies such as video or audio with arts, history, science or social justice content.
  • Ability to read, write and speak Spanish

 

Additional Qualifications and Skills

 

  • Familiarity with Central American communities
  • Experience producing displays or community events
  • Ability to work well within a dynamic team environment
  • Strengths in creativity, flexibility, and ability to communicate (speaking and writing)
  • Organized and able to manage time well

 


Note: Some scheduling flexibility is required. Candidates must be available to assist with occasional educational programs that take place in the evening and weekends.

 

Physical Requirements

Must be able to routinely lift up to 30 lbs. and climb stairs

Additional Information

The Harvard Museums of Science and Culture (HMSC) is a consortium of public museums in Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences that includes the Harvard Museum of Natural History, the Harvard Semitic Museum, the Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments and the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology.

This is a two-year term position starting from the date of hire.
