Global Health Corps Fellow, Knowledge Management Specialist - Build Health International

Role Overview

The Knowledge Management Specialist at Build Health International (BHI) will have the opportunity to participate as a member of a team focused on the full spectrum of medical infrastructure – from design to implementation to operational planning, and the fellow should be keen to contribute to all aspects of this process. The Knowledge Management Specialist will collaborate primarily with the Director of Clinical Planning and Strategy on a range of activities, including: 

  • Operational planning for partners
  • Qualitative research on the built environment in resource-poor settings
  • Development of additional service offerings for BHI
  • Support for the organization’s goals of helping partners implement recommendations and guidelines at project sites, including reporting and evaluation

The Knowledge Management Specialist will also coordinate closely with the BHI team to both capture and document best practices for internal and external communication, help create a BHI toolkit for partners that can be leveraged across projects, optimize knowledge sharing and management (especially lessons learned for the built environment in resource-constrained settings), and create original content for BHI’s open access learning platform. This role will also require travel to BHI’s Beverly, Massachusetts office at least two to four times each month to coordinate with the team based in Beverly.


  • Contribute to programmatic and study reports, publications, and presentations related to the work in which BHI is engaged
  • Build evidence and documentation for our work, help capture lessons learned and best practices, and determine the roadmap to integration of these practices in our work
  • Coordinate the implementation of observational or qualitative research projects, including data collection and analysis
  • Engage in identification, documentation, and dissemination of best practices and preparing conference abstracts, manuscripts, and articles
  • Perform literature reviews on the built environment, infection control, and topics pertaining to and related to BHI’s work 
  • Coordinate, research, write, and edit original content for relevant stakeholders, including but not limited to: impact reports, event collateral, messaging, toolkits, and internal and external communication (e.g., the BHI website)
  • Travel to project sites – including but not exclusively Haiti – to help with initial project evaluations and implement operational recommendations 
  • Support impact evaluation at six months with partner organizations after implementation of BHI interventions
  • Document and translate BHI program results into an open access format of searchable lessons learned
  • Optimize knowledge sharing and knowledge management
  • Synthesize data for scientific abstracts and manuscripts
  • Perform duties on selected special initiatives as needed

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree*
    • Preferred: Master’s degree, especially in public health or related field 
  • Ability to write clearly for a technical audience, with experience producing abstracts, best practice summaries, manuscripts, and/or articles*
  • Strong research skills, including the ability to synthesize insights from a range of sources, such as conducting literature reviews*
  • Experience with quantitative or qualitative data collection and interpretation*
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, presentation, and facilitation*
  • Passion for global health*
  • International development or travel experience*
  • Ability to travel to project sites, most often located in rural locales in resource-constrained settings, including rural Haiti*
  • Experience managing budgets
  • Experience in a service delivery setting, especially healthcare service delivery (clinic volunteer experience, healthcare clerical work, etc.)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Self-starter who showcases strong initiative, flexibility, and an ability to think creatively
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining organized records and files
