Communications & Sponsorship Fellow - Cocoa360

Who We Are

At Cocoa360, we are pioneering a new model of development that leverages existing community resources to improve access to education and healthcare for Ghana’s over 1.6 million cocoa farmers, without a long-term reliance on foreign aid. Cocoa is a key driver of Ghana’s growing economy, with cocoa revenues totaling nearly $2 billion annually, yet the vast majority of cocoa farmers remain trapped in a cycle of generational poverty.

Our “Farm-for-Impact” model is breaking that cycle by putting Ghana’s cocoa farmers in the driver’s seat of development. Our model is simple, yet impactful; we partner with rural communities to invest community-generated revenue in key educational and healthcare improvements.

The Opportunity

The Communication & Sponsorship Fellowship position is ideal for a high-achieving recent college graduate with an interest in communications and international development, who excels at storytelling, is organized, and is excited about being part of the core team at a growing nonprofit. This position is located on our campus in Tarkwa Breman, Ghana, which is home to our girls’ school, community farm, and community clinic.

The Communication & Sponsorship Fellow provides a crucial link between the initiatives and program activities happening in Ghana and the organization’s donors and supporters around the world. S/he, in collaboration with Heads of Departments, gathers qualitative content from the field in the form of photos and interviews with students, staff, and implementing partners. The Fellow then transforms this content for use across a wide variety of platforms including social media, monthly newsletters, videos, the website, and other external publications to support communications efforts. S/he must value authenticity, dignity, and urgency and should excel at telling stories that are both compelling and empowering.

In addition to supporting organization-wide marketing and communication efforts, the Communication & Sponsorship Fellow will serve as the point of contact person for Tarkwa Breman Girls’ School Sponsorship Program, and will assist the Development Associate in managing and marketing the program. S/he will be responsible for maintaining and ensuring the smooth operations of the program and will manage new and existing student portfolios, updating pictures and bios as needed, and will be the lead in letter writing and mailing efforts.

S/he should also be flexible in their work style, able to adapt to working in a rural location with a close-knit team, and enjoys spending time with children. As the lead team member designing and implementing communications efforts, the Communication and Sponsorship Fellow should be able to think creatively about engaging new audiences around Cocoa360’s work.
