The Boston Network for International Development (BNID) was founded in 2004 with the goal of serving as a point of connection for groups and individuals in the Boston area who are concerned with issues of international development (ID)and global justice. Through connecting with each other locally, individuals and organizations of all types – private and nonprofit, academic and professional, informational and activist – can have a greater impact globally. Specifically, BNID aims to:

  • Increase student and community engagement in and awareness of ID issues
  • Mentor and guide students and young professionals as they embark on careers in ID
  • Foster connection and collaboration among ID professionals and academics with the aim of enhancing
    development practices
  • Serve as a comprehensive clearinghouse for ID jobs, events, and organizations in the Boston area
  • Create an accessible point of entry to the ID community in Boston

Position Description: 

BNID is seeking an entrepreneurial and self-driven leader to serve as its Executive Director and to steward this important organization through its next phase of growth. The Executive Director is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the network, producing the weekly newsletter and website content, managing BNID’s Program Associate and intern(s), supporting the work of the Board of Directors, and growing the revenue necessary to operate the organization. Because BNID is a small and mostly volunteer-run organization, this role is part-time (~10-12 hours per week) and flexible (work from home and on your own schedule).

Primary Responsibilities:

10-12 hours per week / Monthly stipend of $1000

Manage Partnerships and Fundraising:

  • Work closely with the revenue committee to deepen relationships with individuals, universities, NGOs, and other organizations that can yield sponsorships and partnerships that can financially support BNID’s programs
  • Create plans for innovative earned revenue model(s) to deepen BNID’s financial sustainability

Develop and Produce BNID’s Programs:

  • Plan and execute BNID events in collaboration with the programs committee, with a view towards
    Spring 2021:
    • Plan for networking and international development community-building activities
    • Design innovative and engaging content-focused events, panel discussions, and speaking events

Strategic Planning:

  • Support the Board of Directors with its strategic planning process
  • Analysis of strategic planning document, work closely with Board of Directors to ensure BNID is on track to meet strategic organizational goals
  • Work with the Board to develop a concrete DEI commitment and strategy, implement into all areas of organization
  • Work with the Board to create diversified revenue streams

Management of Program Associate and Seasonal Interns:

  • Hire and manage seasonal interns
  • Facilitate onboarding and weekly meetings
  • Delegate and oversee core operations of BNID, including: biweekly newsletter to 7,000+ members, reviewal of job postings and events, social media content and blog strategy, and other operational tasks to be performed by Associate and Interns

Manage Administrative Aspects of the Organization:

  • Manage financial aspects of the organization, including QuickBooks and the bank account
  • Ensure timely filing of necessary governance-related documents for BNID, in collaboration with the governance committee
  • Support the planning of all Board meetings including the preparation of Board Meeting materials, documents, financial reports, etc.

Skills and Qualifications:

As a small, mostly volunteer-run nonprofit, the Executive Director will be responsible for owning and managing all core programs, projects, and administrative tasks for BNID, in collaboration with the Board of Directors. The ideal candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Passionate about BNID’s mission

  • Familiarity with the international development landscape in Boston
