(Way) Out of the Box: Space Entrepreneurship for Young Learners
Get "Out of the Box" with us on September 30 at 1:00pm in an engaging discussion about this Space Entrepreneurship program for Israeli and American students. Program founder Vered Cohen Barzilay will join us from Israel to talk with Mary Yntema, President and CEO of WorldBoston. Consul General of Israel, Amb. Zeev Boker will provide opening remarks.
Vered Cohen Barzilay is an Israeli-born social entrepreneur and strong advocate for aviation, space, and science education. She visited Boston in May 2016 through WorldBoston as a participant of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) for a media literacy project. Ms. Cohen Barzilay was already a prominent journalist in Israel when she arrived in Boston, having founded the Novel Rights Human Rights Literature global movement and the Women’s Media Center Israel, a hub for gender equality and social justice in the media industry. She also co-founded the Israeli Chamber of Women Journalists. After visiting the U.S., she cultivated a passion for entrepreneurship that led her to developing Out of the Box in late 2016. Last year, which was the first year of programming, the first cohort of Israeli and American students made pitches to Silicon Valley executives. This year, Ms. Cohen Barzilay was recognized through the #FacesofExchange initiative, which highlights 80 years of the IVLP by showcasing 80 accomplished alumni.
Out of the Box: A Primer
The objective of Out of the Box is to cultivate passion in young people to work in the aerospace industry and to provide them with the know-how and skills to succeed professionally. Out of the Box puts a special focus on recruiting young women and girls and empowering female facilitators working in schools. The event, organized by WorldBoston and the Consulate General of Israel to New England also serves as an invitation for youth to join Out of the Box’s flagship program, “The Science Accelerator”. This is a unique opportunity for young people globally to develop entrepreneurship and innovation in space in the upcoming school year (October 2020 - June 2021).
