Chat & Chowder with Jessica Stern | My War Criminal
Stern’s new book My War Criminal: Personal Encounters with an Architecht of Genocide is a memoir of the two years she spent talking with Radovan Karadžić, responsible for the death of more than 7,000 Muslim men and boys at Srebrenica during the Bosnian War. Stern offers an insightful and sometimes chilling account of the complex and even seductive powers of a magnetic leader—and what can happen when you spend many, many hours with that person.
Jessica Stern is a Research Professor of International Relations at the Pardee School at Boston University, a member of the Homeland Security Experts Group, and a Fellow at both Harvard’s Chan School of Public Health and at Hoover Institution. She is one of the foremost experts on terrorism and the connections between trauma and terror. She was a Council on Foreign Relations International Affairs Fellow, a National Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, and a Fellow of the World Economic Forum. Prior to becoming a professor, Stern served on President Clinton’s National Security Council Staff and as an analyst at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
